Superintendent of Catholic Schools
Superintendent of Catholic Schools – Diocesan Leadership Opportunity Across the Nation
A Visionary Role for Transformative Catholic Leaders
Are you a strategic, mission-driven leader called to shape the future of Catholic education at scale? Catholic dioceses across the country are seeking faithful, dynamic Superintendents to serve as chief academic and spiritual leaders for school systems that educate thousands of students, support hundreds of educators, and serve the Church’s vital mission of evangelization and formation. This is a profound opportunity for a leader who can unite vision with execution, faith with leadership, and tradition with innovation.
About the Role
The Superintendent of Catholic Schools serves as the chief academic, operational, and spiritual leader of diocesan schools—responsible for advancing their mission, strengthening their vitality, and guiding pastors, principals, and administrative teams across the region.
This role goes far beyond compliance or oversight. It is a ministry of influence and evangelization, entrusted with ensuring that Catholic schools remain academically excellent, financially accessible, spiritually vibrant, and boldly Catholic in identity. The Superintendent works in close collaboration with the Bishop (or delegated diocesan leadership), pastors, principals, and stakeholders to form students, develop leaders, and sustain schools that reflect the heart of the Church.
What You’ll Do
- Provide visionary, Christ-centered leadership to Catholic schools across the diocese or archdiocese
- Promote and protect Catholic identity while advancing academic excellence, student achievement, and formation
- Champion operational vitality, helping schools develop innovative models for tuition, funding, and sustainability
- Lead the recruitment, development, and support of school principals—building a strong, mission-aligned leadership pipeline
- Strengthen enrollment, advancement, and marketing strategies in partnership with pastors, boards, and principals
- Collaborate with diocesan departments on school budgeting, policy, governance, and parish-school partnerships
- Engage and inspire stakeholders across schools, parishes, and communities to support and invest in Catholic education
- Oversee accreditation, school improvement, and continuous professional development initiatives
- Represent the diocesan school system to regional and national Catholic education networks with conviction and grace
Who You Are
You are more than an administrator—you are a Catholic mission leader, a culture builder, and a champion of formation. You lead with both executive presence and pastoral sensitivity. You’re as comfortable in a strategy session as you are in a school Mass or classroom.
You bring:
- A practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, committed to the teachings and mission of Catholic education
- Proven leadership in Catholic, independent, or charter school systems; diocesan or regional experience preferred
- Strategic and operational experience in school growth, team development, and financial sustainability
- The ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders toward a shared mission
- Executive-level communication, planning, and stakeholder engagement skills
- A passion for forming students, supporting educators, and strengthening the Church’s educational ministry
Qualifications
- Master’s degree required; Doctorate preferred (Educational Leadership, Catholic School Administration, or a related field)
- Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in Catholic or educational leadership roles
- Knowledge of school operations, curriculum, finance, advancement, and organizational leadership
- Experience supervising or mentoring school leaders across multiple sites or systems
- Strong familiarity with Catholic identity formation, governance structures, and parish-school collaboration
